Dear LSU OMS Alumni and Friends,
Happy New Year 2014-Hope the holidays were the best for you and your Family
From Jack Kent, ex Chair
Please see the attached Pearls III brochure. Your chairman, Dan Spagnoli MS, PhD, DDS has put together an outstanding two days of continuing education. The course, sponsored by the Jack Kent Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation (JKOMSF), is at the J W Marriott in New Orleans on Friday and Saturday, April 11 and 12, 2014. In addition, there is a Free OMSNIC Risk Management Seminar Thursday afternoon with a cocktail reception. The course features 7 clinicians in OMS and Prosthodontics who will present the latest on 1) virtual surgical planning for orthognathic surgery and dental implants, and 2) dental implant therapy using guided implant reconstruction, full arch reconstruction with immediate loading, immediate vs. traditional loading, and attachment selection for overdentures. As noted in the brochure, this program encourages the OMS to bring their restorative and orthodontic colleagues. Hope to see you there for education, reunion, and the French Quarter Fest.
AND REMEMBER, the registration fee will be discounted for the JKOMSF donors, depending on the donor level. Do not forget to mention that you are a donor when registering.
From Dale Misiek, President of the LSU OMS Alumni
Another year has passed and I am sure most of you have much to be thankful for. We should all be grateful for the excellent training received at LSU OMS in New Orleans. One way to show your appreciation is to support the JKOMSF as Tooley Towns and Eric Geist discuss below. Another is to become more active in your Alumni Association. Wes Emison and his daughter Lora have just about completed work on our web site, which had laid dormant for several years. With this I would like to reinstate annual dues for those alumni who wish to stay in touch and support the alumni functions and residents as we move forward. Our Alumni bank account is at a low level and needs a boost. We recently supported the alumni dinner at Casa Feliz in Orlando at the AAOMS meeting and traditional resident fishing trip. Please consider sending me a $100.00 check to help support alumni and resident functions. Remember that neither the state of Louisiana nor LSU OMS department can spend money in this manner. It will make you feel good and will actually benefit those who will follow in your footsteps.
From Tooley Towns, President and Eric Geist, Secretary Treasurer of JKOMSF
The foundation continues to grow and thrive. New donors to the Foundation in 2014 were Dr. Andrew Chang and KLS Martin. Now is a good time for all who have pledged to stay on track with your annual donation to the JKOMSF. In addition to our efforts to support resident education at LSU, the foundation has been very active in making possible and supporting the JKOMS Pearls courses. They have proven to be quite successful in providing high quality CE, promotion of the Foundation and recognition of our donors through discounted registration fees. On behalf of the Foundation Board, we want to express our sincere thanks to all of our donors and wish you all a peaceful and prosperous 2014.
