Jack Kent Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation
Mission Statement
The Jack Kent Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation (JKOMSF) was formed by a group of alumni of the LSU Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) Residency Program in New Orleans. Its purpose is to support and strengthen LSU OMS departmental education, research and service missions of the Postdoctoral Program by funding 1) department scientific and clinical research programs, 2) faculty, resident, and fellow salaries to a competitive level, 3) travel to scientific meetings, 4) capital equipment and clinic space, and 5) other department and educational activities as deemed appropriate by the JKOMS Foundation.
About the Foundation
The Jack Kent Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation seeks to sustain and advance the LSU OMS program in New Orleans by providing an opportunity for all alumni to give back and pass forward a part of what they have received through their training at LSU. With your help and support we will enable future Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons trained at LSU to reach even greater heights. The JKOMS Foundation is a 501 (C)(3) tax exempt deductible. The campaign goal is $3.2 million. Your contributions may be designated to one or both funds – (A) the Foundation Fund or (B) the Chair Fund. Monies contributed to the Foundation Fund are invested and controlled outside of the LSUHSC. The goal is $2 million and these monies will be used to support the training program at the complete discretion of the JKOMS Foundation. Monies contributed to the Chair Fund will be sent to an LSUHSC account so that a Chair application to the state can be made; the goal is $1.2 million. A 40% matching contribution of $800,000 from the state will take this goal to $2 million. These monies would be controlled by the department through the dental school. Annual Foundation reports are provided to the contributors and LSU OMS Alumni Association members. Monies are invested in the Asset Management and Trust Group at Progressive Bank of Louisiana and over 95% of the contributions are endowed in perpetuity. The funds are overseen by the JKOMS Foundation Board of Directors.
Our Future
Now is the opportunity for all LSU OMS graduates to give a small fraction of their practice earning back to the site of their training. It is so true that all of us are forever appreciative of the opportunity to enjoy our profession and its financial rewards. I sincerely hope your appreciation can be expressed with a worthwhile contribution to the training program and the current and future residents in training. I know our residents want to experience the educational opportunities during training that you enjoyed. When they finish, they hope that this training will enable them to realize the satisfaction of professional and financial rewards that you have realized.
